What an exciting feeling it is to see a client ‘click’ and witness the moment they realise something. It’s like being in the dark and emerging from a tunnel. Before this moment, I saw the client’s struggles, their lack of awareness of their problems, and their mood fluctuations, which resembled the difficulties in navigating before we reach the tunnel. It wasn’t easy to endure in the dark, as they were probably panicking trying to find a solution, and both they and/or I might have felt stuck and frustrated. However, as their therapist, I kept reminding myself to remain hopeful and continue with them until this moment of revelation, when they have finally reached a new height of self-awareness and realised how they could improve. It’s like we’ve finally reached a point where the journey feels enjoyable and manageable. This ‘click,’ or light bulb moment, is the kind of reward and achievement I truly enjoy from my job. It was fulfilling, as I felt I had really helped someone with my time and effort. It’s a feeling where we have both reshaped ourselves for the better. It’s a wonderful feeling.
